The two clubs battled to a 0-0 score through eight innings until Hall of Famer Jimmie Foxx delivered the decisive blow – a 2-run homer off Burleigh Grimes to give the A’s a 3-1 lead in games heading back to Philadelphia. The A’s clinched the series two days later with a 7-1 thrashing of the Redbirds at Shibe Park. Grimes went the distance for St. Louis, and Lefty Grove won in relief for Philadelphia. George Earnshaw started the game for the A’s and pitched seven innings of two-hit shutout baseball.
